Ottawa half marathon is officially 30 days from today.
It’s getting closer and I’m getting nervous. This past week was a bad week for me running wise, between a few late nights at work and nasty weather I haven’t run since Sunday. (7 miles by the way and 10 minutes better than the last time I tackled 7 miles). Still. Part of me wants to attempt 10 miles tomorrow even though my training plan only says 8. I need to trust my plan. But my plan is making me nervous. The longest run on my plan is 10 miles. I’ve read countless stories of others that have followed this plan successfully for first time half marathons. I need to trust it. I know that it has worked. But, since I have never run 13.1 miles before I’m worried. And I feel like I should just do it sometime really soon. Like now.
In other news Sunday is my long run day and it’s supposed to rain all day. Cross your fingers for me.
Part of me is still wondering why I’ve decided to go all the way to Ottawa to run for 13.1 miles. I could easily put myself through this torture closer to home – where I can collapse in my own bed afterwards.
Zoe and I have coerced my mom and sister-in-law to go to the Girls on the Run 5k on May 19th. Zoe is very excited. She has been practicing her runs around the block. It’s also track and field time for her at school next month. As I type this she is preparing to debate with her teacher and “The Track Committee” 🙂 why at 8, they should let her run the 1500m with the older kids. Wish her luck. I’ll be thinking about her all day.

P.S. I know I could come in last, but I’m not scared. I could come in first then everyone will be scared of me.
🙂 I love the confidence this kid has. I don’t know where she gets it. Yet another reason to run with your daughter.
While this is alarming and creating concern amongst watchers of the Middle East, it actually wasn’t so long ago that Canadian women were also banned from running alongside men.
As I plan to run a half marathon, and as Zoe and I prepare to run in a 5k simply to celebrate girls and running next month, I need to remember how lucky I am to be able to do the things I want to, when I want to.
Google Reader is going bye-bye
Okay – not new news. Just a little housekeeping for those that haven’t found (or looked) for a replacement. I’ve been using Bloglovin and I really like it. I like it because as a reader it is easy to use and looks nice. I find it far easier to navigate than Google Reader. And as a bonus, when you click on a post to read it — it opens a new tab in your browser. It drives me crazy when I lose my spot when I click on a link. Insane I tell you. As a blogger, I like it because you have to open the post to read the whole thing and this takes you directly to my blog. Google reader was not like that. As a blogger I say thank-you.
