Breakfasts with North Coast Naturals

Next month I will be guest posting over at North Coast Naturals blog and I’m really excited. I have something special planned that will help you get through the holiday crazy-making, gift-buying, tree-trimming and party-planning.  But before I do that I thought I’d run through some of the everyday things we do with North Coast Natural products at breakfast. We’ve been fortunate to be able to sample of wide variety of goodies and they have become just a regular ol’ staple around here. And most normally, they are part of breakfast.

First off the hemp seeds:

We have oatmeal 2-3 times per week and be assured there are hemp seeds sprinkled on top. Always.

breakfast cookies In our cookies. I’ve made these breakfast cookies several times since my first past. Last time I was short on the sesame seeds for this recipe so I subbed in hemp seeds. Perfect.

And sprinkled on our toast.

Then there is the protein powders and smoothies.

This is of course my fave. For one it’s beautiful. But more importantly it’s peanut butter and chocolate. Like really.. it’s perfect.

But the kids wanted me to share their own special pre-hockey practice power smoothies. They are both convinced that they skate faster and play better after a “power” smoothie.

By-the-way, I totally let the kids blend these up. I’ve given them a basic formula: 2-3 pieces frozen banana, half a scoop of protein powder and 1 cup of almond milk. Then they can adjust to their needs. We always start with half a scoop of protein powder for the kids. A full scoop usually makes too much for them to finish all by themselves, so we start with half a scoop of protein and 1 cup of almond milk. If it’s too thick they can add more milk or ice. I also keep a variety of frozen fruit in the freezer at all times so they can experiment on their own. It’s easy and saves me from doing it all for them. And before you go all crazy on me and tell me a blender is a dangerous thing for a kid to us — your right it could be a dangerous thing. However, I have a Blendtec and the blades are not sharp. Plus we have gone through some basic “How to use the blender training” to avoid some messy catastrophes.

Anyway… on to their smoothies
